My house in the sun   2005 / 2006

 

To Friends, Countryman, Neighbours or to those who are just interested,

 

I had been looking for my house in the sun for some time, I had ‘missed the boat’ for buying in Spain, Portugal, and possibly Italy, if I wanted to buy a house which fitted In with my criteria and at a price that I could afford.

 

My criteria for buying was; that it must be near to the sea, near to a main resort (so I can join in the tourist fun if I wanted to) but not so far away I couldn’t get back by taxi, a mountain rear backdrop, places of interest to visit, possibly with a bit of land, and at a reasonable cost.

 

Last year I went on holiday with my girlfriend for the first time to the resort of Altinkum which is predominantly an English resort, it is between Izmir & Bodrum. 2 ½ hours from the airport at Bodrum & 3 hours from Izmir. On the last 2 days of our holiday, we were looking  around the area for a prospective house and we quite liked the town of Akbuk which is at the moment undeveloped for tourists (the next 20 years will see change) but for now it is just a sleepy village.

 

Here we found a place which was ideal, 300 metres from the beach, 300 metres from the bus station & a Friday market. It had the mountain backdrop I wanted, with views over the town, so it fitted most of our criteria.

We now had a problem we liked the house but how do we go about buying, who was the owner, we only had one day of our holiday left!!

 

Back home my next door neighbour, who as it happened had already bought a house in Altinkum, recommended I negotiate with his Estate agent Mikey at Bargain Holiday Homes in Altinkum, Mikey had done an a excellent job in looking after everything for him & as Mikey mostly works on recommendation he was sure that I would be likewise pleased with his services. Well believe me I was very pleased. In the next months mostly through the internet he arranged everything for me, tracked down the owners in Ankara, negotiated a good price, organised all paper work & refurbishment building work to bring it up to the English living standard we expect & best of all at prices we could afford.

 

On my next flying visit I finally met Mikey who took me around personally to organise Bank Accounts, Title Deeds and other legalities, when we visited the house the finish standards were more than we expected.

Since my last visit Mikey had gone on to have the house inspected to enable house insurances water & electric connections, so when we next arrive everything will be finished.

 

We hope to go out to Turkey this year for a 6 month stay, a tryout of Turkish Living, but one thing is for sure, we will be inviting Mikey & Louise for dinner as soon as we have a dining room table.

My new home in Akbuk

5 march 2006.

We contacted Mikey and Louise of bargain homes in November of 2005 on the recommendation of our friends who had done business with them. We were blind about buying in Turkey and did not know altinkum. Mikey and Louise soon put us at our ease they answered all our questions and sent us photos of the apartment block although it was only a shell. We had so many things we needed checking and they were running back and forth measuring this and that, a couple of things we didn’t like and with the consent of Ali the builder we came to an agreement. They have been nothing but pleasant, helpful and very professional with everything they have done including the money side. We have not seen our apartment yet or completed everything but we expect everything to go through smoothly with there help.
